The Classroom-Based Externship
The CBE is an opportunity for aspiring educators to experience how STEM teachers manage a classroom at the beginning of the academic year. Standard Field Placements bring pre-service teachers into the classroom for a few hours per week -- but this externship immerses CalTeach students in "a day in the life" of a teacher.
Student Applicant Requirements

Must have taken at least 1 CalTeach course (preferably 2 courses)

Declared or provided intent to declare CalTeach Minor

Available to shadow a STEM Teacher between August 14-18, or August 16-22, depending on the first day of school.
Participants should expect to work at least 25 hours during the week of their assignment. Please see the Guide and Expections document
To be considered for the Fall externship, please complete the Application by August 4, 2023
The CBE and Financial Aid
Students are advised that the participant support stipends, like other scholarships and awards, may adjust their current financial package. Students should speak to the Financial Aid Office in Sproul Hall to see what, if any, adjustment may occur, or if you any other have concerns regarding the scholarships.
You must be a U.S. Citizen, National, or Legal Resident in order to apply.
