Information for Faculty

Cal Teach is a way to help some of UC Berkeley’s brightest students deliver the gift of math and science to disadvantaged public school children in Berkeley and around the state. You’ll help put math and science to work through transformative teaching, the kind we need in disadvantaged public schools. By integrating subject matter, pedagogy, and research through in-classroom experience under the guidance of master public school teachers, we quickly develop subject matter experts who are also expert teachers trained in inspiring disadvantaged children to grasp the opportunities presented by math and science. From generation to generation, social and economic progress is powered by proficiency in math and science. There are many who live to solve problems. Those who can Cal Teach. It’s the math and science of social progress.

One of the key components of the Cal Teach program is the involvement of faculty from across campus including science, math, engineering, education, and history faculty. Faculty can support Cal Teach in several ways, including:

1. Promoting the program throughout your department by hanging posters, sending emails to your email lists, or making sure that your major advisors are knowledgeable about Cal Teach.
2. Teaching a Cal Teach course or starting a new course in your department.
3. Hosting a Cal Teach pre-service teacher in your research lab for the 9 week summer research institute.
