Mission & Vision
CalTeach is part of a national movement to address the challenges facing K–12 education.
CalTeach was proposed and funded in 2005 and began hosting courses in 2006. Over the next few years the program expanded it's course offerings, and by 2010 the Science and Math Education minor had been fully implemented. That same year the experimental CalTeach Credential Program was approved. Also occurring in 2010 was the founding of Cal Teach's sister program for veteran teachers, Math for America Berkeley. These two programs together comprise the Berkeley Science and Math Initiative (BSMI).
Our five-course minor is designed to be completed along side your STEM (science, technology, engineering, or math) degree.
Students who complete the minor are eligible to apply for the CalTeach Credential program, a unique opportunity to graduate with both a degree and a teaching credential.
